Anand A. Hardikar, Associate Professor - Sydney, Australia
Associate Professor Anand A. Hardikar, University of Sydney, will be visiting Denmark on a Visiting Professorship funded by the Danish Diabetes Academy as a collaboration between Louise T. Dalgaard, Roskilde University and Jens H. Nielsen, University of Copenhagen. Anand will be in Denmark in February, May and August 2017 and January 2018.
Anand will be involved in investigating serum microRNAs and circulating cell free DNA profiles in the Danish Childhood Obesity cohort in which a one year multidisciplinary intervention program in childhood obesity was shown to confer reduction in liver and muscle fat, offering metabolic improvements to kids and adolescent.
Over the timeline of the research visits, this research will investigate if improvement in metabolic health observed in these kids following the intervention are i) associated with lower levels of insulin cfDNA and islet microRNAs, indicating less beta-cell stress/death and ii) reduction in mRNA and microRNA markers of endothelial damage.
