Post Doc Michala Prause has recieved an exchange travel grant of 75.000 DKK for an internship at the lab of Professor Susan Bonner-Wier, Joslin Diabetes Center, Harvard Medical School in Boston, USA that is among the world's leading diabetes research laboratories with special focus on beta-cell re- and dedifferentiation.

Michala Prauses Post Doc project is very promising with regards to understanding how beta-cells dedifferentiate and thereby loss their function. The aim of the internship is to investigate the role of BMP-2, Hes-1 and Hey-1 in their well-established dedifferentiation model, the rat or mouse partial (85-90%) pancreatectomy model. She will also learn how to conduct this model in rodents with the aim of bringing back this technology to the Section of Cellular and Metabolic research, University of Copenhagen. Furthermore in collaboration with Professor Susan Bonner-Weir, she will investigate the role and mechanisms of BMP-2, Hes-1 and Hey-1 in other diabetic animal models at Joslin Diabetes Center.
